Four year-end questions to pause on today

Did you know...95% of everything you do every day is on autopilot and not logical? That's right. You're associative. (Example: You get picked on in third grade by Dillan and now you cringe every time you meet someone with that name.) 

 

And of all your daily thoughts, 80% of them are negative and repetitive? 

A client would tell me that she was a lot of things but one thing that she wasn't was negative. Hahaha. Boy was she shocked when she began to 'hear' her self-talk. 

 

That's the thing, our internal voice is so conversational that we take it as truth. As facts that we don't even question. 

 

It's this voice that keeps us in the same believable lie loop all. The. Time. 

 

I can't find another job because I'm too old.

I just attract people who use me.

I don't have the willpower to lose weight so I just accept that I'll always be big. 

I don't have that much to offer.

 

When you put these types of associative and negative believable lies on autopilot you train your mind to continue finding supporting evidence for them.

 

That's a recipe for Same Shit Different Day. 

And hey, I'm not calling you out. We ALL do it. I had a thought meltdown yesterday. It took me a minute to recognize that the thoughts I was thinking were bullshit lies and not truths about me, my abilities, and my future. 

 

Learning to shift out of these thoughts in the moment turns our lives from Same Shit Different Day to Living Epic and Bold Every Day. 

 

I hope you pause on this post right now and give these four year-end questions a couple of minutes of your time:



1. When you think about your upcoming week, what part feels heavy or troublesome? 

What thoughts are contributing to this outcome?

2. What causes you to throw your hands up because there's just no use anymore? 

What is another way to think about this?

3. What workarounds do you have in place to trick yourself into sticking with a habit? To get out of bed to go to work? To appear confident and knowledgeable in front of your peers? 

What would your day look and feel like without the workarounds?

4. What do you want for yourself in 2024 (that you may have also wanted this year) that will stay out of reach if you keep your thoughts, associations, and supporting evidence the same?
