“Who do you think you are?”, she said to me
“Who do you think you are?”
Yes, my client said that to me.
No, she wasn’t talking to me. She was telling me how she talked to herself.
She confessed that she’d been talking to herself like this for years. Every time she thought about playing bigger in her life, something she secretly wanted, that same record would start playing.
And because she didn’t know she could change the song or pull the plug, she’d sit and listen to it. Over and over and over. I envision the Macarena playing 24/7…ahhhh!
To keep from going crazy, she'd distract herself from hearing the ongoing noise.
She filled her days with over-exercising, over-cleaning, over-cooking, over-pleasing, over-planning, over-drinking, and overworking so that by the end of the day she’d fall into bed too tired to hear anything.
The next morning? She’d wake up and do it all again.
She thought it was all normal. The exhaustion. Inner-fighting. Staying stalled out from boldly showing up in her life. Making excuses.
Ya’ll, this isn’t normal.
You can’t run from your thoughts. Well, you can, but they’ll always hunt you down.
You can, however, learn how to change your record.
She learned how to do this. And when that old record wants to start playing? She gets up and calmly and confidently changes it within the first couple of notes.
She no longer needs the workarounds, she’s got a whole new vinyl collection!
Here's some of her new tunes:
Badass woman, that’s who!
Washing you out of my hair
I choose!
Relaxed, in charge, and on a mission
If the Macarena’s been in your head and you’re devising lots of distractions so you don’t have to hear it, I promise there’s a better solution. I have it and I’d love to teach you how to apply it in your own life.
And if the Macarena's not been in your head but it is now, I'm sorry. But also chuckling a bit ;)
Create a great day and choose your record on purpose 💪

P.S. A real song I used to play on repeat when I was on my awakening journey? Strength, Courage, and Wisdom by India Arie :)
