Corona fears and what will help you

This current situation reminds me of the time I was going through my divorce, money was on E (for empty), and my kids, twelve and fourteen, were caught up in whoa is me.

I felt so scared about the future, hopeless, and guilty. How was I going to make enough money to support us? Where was I going to live? Was I scarring the kids for life?

I’ll never forget, we were all laying on my bed one night and I was discussing our financial situation with them and how I needed to do a second round of budget cuts which meant going even more bare bones than before.

They were understanding yet felt sorry for themselves, as we all can do from time to time.

They started listing off all the things they weren’t going to get to do or have and I laid there listening while also getting sucked into their whoa.

And then I snapped out of it!

Where was focusing on lack going to get us? Just more lack.

I remember feeling energized and empowered in that moment to re-focus our bed meeting.

What do we have? What are we grateful for? What can they count on from me? What can I count on from them?

Within moments we went from doom and gloom to hopeful and grateful.

There was a significant shift for me that night.

I remembered that I was was in charge of how I was going to lead my family and me and I decided that I was going to do it with confidence, not fear.

I needed to write this story out this morning to help me, just as I’m hoping it may also help you.

I have been getting sucked into these past fearful mindset patterns lately (because that’s how our mind works. It assigns the same feelings and fears to things we’ve had strong negative associations with in the past) and need to snap out of it!

What do we have the power to do? Stay now. The only time it ever is.

The best tool? WTA!

When you get caught up in your head worrying, what-ifing, stressing, or predicting then take a physical action as soon as possible.

Any action is a good action (jumping jacks, deep forceful breaths, a brisk walk, even screaming!) This distracts your negative patterns of thinking so you can come back into your body and into the present...and out of your head.

And sure, even though the present might not be happy-go-lucky, it's most likely better than the future stories you're playing in your head.

Plus, being now helps you move forward. Staying in your head stalls you out every time.

When you're now (present) you get to choose...

how you're going to move through each moment

what small action you have the power to take in each moment

your attitude

Practice WTA as many times as you need to because it's really that powerful!

Can I help?

If you're spinning out about income, job security, next steps, a plan to stick with (or implement) a healthy habit, or just want someone to talk to, here's a link to schedule a 30-minute 'Snap out of it!' session with me. It's something I am happy to do and it comes with no strings.
